Rusty Brown Returns in “Painted Women” Performance

On Thursday, January 19, Rusty Brown, local Fort Myers feminist historian, tells the true but little-known stories of the female subjects in famous portraits. This illustrated presentation will disclose the scandal touched off by John Singer Sargent’s sensuous portrait of a Parisian socialite. Why did Andrew Wyeth hide the sketches and paintings of a woman who secretly modeled for him for 15 years? Who was the nude in the famous Rembrandt portrait painted in 1654? These and other intrigues make up this unique entertainment. Lunch features: Grilled Chicken, Salad Greens, Fresh Fruit Mini Sweets & Beverage. This delightful event is sponsored by Sanibel Holiday! During Shellabration week, between Feb 27-March 3, visitors are invited to bring a shell to BIG ARTS Center at 900 Dunlop Rd, or BIG ARTS at 2244 Periwinkle Way (by the Sanibel Bean), or Herb Strauss Theater. Identify the shell, add it to our collection, and receive special discounted ticket pricing on selected BIG ARTS programs from Feb 27 - March 3. In addition, the San Cap Art League will have a special shell-themed exhibit in the Herb Strauss Theater lobby.
BILLY'S BIKE AND RENTALS: will be giving all customers (online and in-store) a raffle ticket for a chance to own a signed Shellabration poster designed by artist Pam Brodersen.
SANIBEL HISTORICAL MUSEUM, will have several shell collections on display throughout Shellabration week inside the Rutland Home, Burnap Cottage, Morning Glories and the Schoolhouse. In addition, there will also be a shell collection from Thomas Edison with a letter to authenticate it from Mina Edison.

WATSON MACRAE GALLERY, "Sea Shells" Invitational Exhibition featuring the works of invited Sanibel artists and focusing on the Shells of Sanibel and the Sea. There will be an opening reception celebrating the artwork and artists on Monday, Feb 27th, which is open to the public. The gallery will also feature shell inspired pottery and glass from artists around the country during Shellabration week.
