74th Annual Sanibel Shell Fair & Show

74th Annual Shell Fair & Show

The Shell Fair & Show is an Island tradition.  Held annually for three days during the first week of March, this year's fair (March 3 to 5) marks the 74th anniversary.

The largest exhibition of its kind in the United States, it provides as opportunity to learn about shells in their natural state, and to see them put to use in all kinds of arts and crafts.

Inside the Community House, the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club, presents a juried show.  Among the show's highlights are the many outstanding examples of shell art competing for prizes in almost fifty categories.  These works are unlike anything most have ever seen.

Outside the Community House, is the less formal fair.  Every Monday during the preceding year, Shellcrafters meet in the Community House to make shell "critters" and crafts.  Visitors can buy these works in the Shellcrafters tent.

The Live Shell Exhibit, a fair favorite hosts aquariums that hold sea creatures in re-creations of their natural habitats.
