Additional summer programs initiated on islands for youths

Summary: With the lifting of more COVID-19 restrictions in recent weeks and further reopening of the islands, additional entities and organizations are offering summertime youth camps and family activities. The city began taking registrations this week for its Youth Summer Camp held at the Sanibel Recreation Center, while the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge is launching its first-ever Virtual Summer Camp on June 10. In addition, the Sanibel Community House is offering daily cooking camps and more, and the Sanibel Sea School added extra virtual options this month for teens. more…

Gourmet To-Go Meals Offered by Community House

83rd annual Shell Festival returns to Sanibel

Summary: SANIBEL, Fla. — The 83rd annual Shell Festival is returning to Sanibel on Mar. 5-7. The popular attraction showcases one-of-a-kind art crafted from shells. This year, organizers say it will also feature a mermaids crown made entirely of precious metals and jewels. The festival’s exhibits are known for it’s unique art made of shells from Southwest Florida and all over the world. The event will be located at the Sanibel Community House and offer a variety of shell art, crafts, books, as well as a selection of food vendors. Valentine feast raises funds for youth education

Summary: Love was in the air on Feb. 10 when 135 SanCap Catholics gathered at The Community House on Sanibel to enjoy a feast of lobsters, shrimp, clams and more in a fun-filled atmosphere of Christian fellowship. Unassociated with any particular church or diocese, the new group's motto is "All Are Welcome." Its second function of the season, the evening of dinner and dancing raised $1,500 to support children's education in Africa through the Marianist Missions. more…
