Artists on Display

Each month we have one or two featured artists' work on display at The Community House . The artists are all members of the Sanibel Captiva Art League.  This month we have  two artists:

NANCY SPERTE followed a lifelong interest in the arts, both professionally guiding an art purchase program for a major company, and later, engaging in studies in drawing and painting at various institutions, including the Ridgewood Art Institute, The New York Botanical Gardens and the Barrier Island Group for the Arts.  After a career in the investment management business, and with the inspiration of her artist mother, she returned to her love of hands-on drawing and painting.  Currently, she is a member of the Ridgewood Art Institute inRidgewood,New Jersey, and the Barrier Islands Group for the Arts and Sanibel Captiva Art League, Sanibel, Florida.  She paints both in studio and enplein air, primarily using transparent watercolor, and exhibits locally and in New York. She resides in Sanibel, FL.

MILLY PEREIRA .Painting is my “Happy Place.” My first formal lessons took place at age 10-the beginning of a lifetime of painting! My landscape paintings were always a spiritual experience. What a beautiful world!  A fascinating way to capture memories for myself and others. My accumulated background was the instruction journey of many art teachers and schools locally and internationally. Growing up with an artist mother was always an inspiration. I have painted “plein air” all over the world. Most recently I painted in Italy and Nova Scotia.Teaching art has been very rewarding as I encourage students to see the world with an artistic eye!

My memberships have included:Tolland County Art Association (president), Vernon, CT; Franklin Art Association MA; North Shore Art Association Gloucester, MA; Ft. Myers Beach Art Association Florida and Sanibel-Captiva Art League Florida . Painting medium is diversified: oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and experimental collage. My first award was in eighth grade and from that time forward I have received numerous awards from many art exhibits. I received an award from “Paint the Beach” an international plein air competition sponsored by FMBAA. I was asked to join the “Winners Circle” of Southwest Florida. I continue to paint, exhibiting at art shows and doing commissions and murals. I hope you enjoy my “art world.”
